These books are old. They are full of yellow dog-eared pages. The tell tale trails of over used magic markers highlight notions of what I thought was important at the time. For the most part, I’m still drawn to the same stanzas. This is in spite of the distracting affects of my sporadic application of wide wavy lines of color. I really need to use a straight edge. Regardless, I’m glad I kept them. With no pun intended, most left a mark. Some continue to do so.
So why am I walking down the print version of memory lane? It’s research. Research in preparation of my series of essays entitled: “Notes to Self—What I Should Have Jotted Down Over a 40 Year Career.” This phase of research pertains to influences and influencers. What and who were they? The list is extensive and it’s not just a compilation of authors and books. I’ve had to develop categories. From mentors to academics, from public figures to media personalities, from sports heroes to politicians, from musicians to philosophers, from friends and foes, I’m making a list and I’m checking it twice. Since some of the most creative people are screen, script, and speechwriters, I will be compiling a list of notable quick quips that have become a part of my own vocabulary. Some are even my own.
Stay Tuned—The Notes are Coming!!
