I wrote ‘The Art of the Deal’ with Trump. His self-sabotage is rooted in his past.– By Tony Schwartz for the Washington Post

Over the years, especially on any form of social-media, I’ve avoided public political conversations. This, in part, is due to the OJT we get as city managers or corporate vice presidents. Not being politically vocal does not mean a lack of political savvy. Yet, the non-political observations in this piece are very insightful; not just in terms of Trump the President but Trump the person. I must say, I’ve witnessed some of the same personality traits in others over my own career.  Working for two corporate CEO’s, one a billionaire real estate developer and one a billionaire retailer, I personally experienced some of the very same personality traits outlined in Tony’s essay. Unfortunately, I’ve witnessed some of these same characteristics in a few city managers as well. They are not representative of the majority but still leave an indelible mark nonetheless.
