The Civic Mission of Schools: Protecting Our Democracy

Given the events of the last few weeks, it would seem apparent that so many Americans do not understand the foundation, legal basis or the operational procedures and functionings of their own government.  Courses in American government, within numerous  K-12 systems and universities, have become electives or substituted for other social science courses. American government has to once again become a required course of study, not an elective.  An informed society is an empowered society resulting in adult conversations and solutions to complicated issues.
